At Hilltop, learning is fun! We have a
"free-choice",
play-based, emergent curriculum, in which children are allowed to
choose from a wide variety of activities, all designed to help them
develop life's basic growing skills: self-esteem, self-expression, and
a curiosity for the world around them. We offer creative experiences in
art, music, movement, science and nature, communication and language,
and physical education. Our goal is to provide children their first
glimpse of the world in a safe environment where the hard work of
growing up and solving problems can be learned through personal
experiences.
By inviting parents to share their own skills at
Hilltop, we
all learn from each other. Parents gain new insights into child-raising
issues from other parents, school staff, and guest speakers. Because we
have families from many different ethnic and socio-economic
backgrounds,
we learn to accept and respect other cultures and lifestyles. Overall,
Hilltop teaches an awareness of community while respecting the
uniqueness of each individual child. To us, that's a great
responsibility, and it's one we've handled exceptionally well for
more than 50 years.
